Kaitlin Mills, daughter of Octavia Gear, is a senior at Centennial High School and this week’s Athlete of the Week.
She is the captain of the CHS Dance Team. She said the biggest highlights for her this season were bringing home the team’s first-ever regional win and making it to finals at Nationals.
Mills has been dancing since she was five years old and said she “couldn’t imagine life without it.” She added, “My love for music and expression helps drive my passion for dance.”
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “My teammates inspire me so much on and off the floor. The consistently push me to dance harder and to work smarter so that we can all succeed together.”
Her top role models are her mother and her coaches. “They are constantly pushing themselves and those around them to be better people and always radiate positivity.”
Mills describes herself as caring, energetic and helpful. Outside of dance, she enjoys being a member of the Clay Target Team and choreographing for Starbright Children’s Theatre.
Dance Team Coach Natalie Coffin said of Mills, “Kaitlin is an extraordinary student athlete here at CHS. She is a captain on the dance team, as well as a member on the Clay Target Team. Kaitlin is an extremely hard-working individual who never gives up on her goals… Kaitlin is truly a wonderful representative of Centennial!”
After graduating from CHS this spring, she plans to attend Middle Tennessee State University for Aerospace Engineering. She also plans to continue dancing for the school team.
