Senior/ Transition II
Kelsey Martens, daughter of Linda and Raymond Martens, is a senior and Transition II student at Centennial High School and our Jet’s Pizza Female Athlete of the Week.
She is a Special Olympic athlete and competes in bowling. This year, she won not both bronze and gold medals at the State Special Olympic bowling meet.
When asked what inspires her to keep training and competing she said, “I like to make strikes and spares.”
One of her biggest role models is a previous teacher, Mrs. Holly.
“She taught me a lot and helped me through tough times,” Martens said.
CHS teacher Jan Lincoln said of Martens:
She has been preparing on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for many weeks to bring her best to the state Special Olympic bowling meet in Columbia on October 30. Her hard practice and determination resulted in her securing both a gold and bronze medal! She qualified for and was invited to participate in the USA Special Olympics representing Tennessee in bowling. The USA meet will be held in Seattle, Washington in 2018.
After graduating from CHS, Martens plans to pursue a job at Claire’s in the Cool Springs Galleria Mall.
