Paige Shea, daughter of Krissi and Preston Shea, is a junior at Battle Ground Academy and this week’s Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Girls Softball Team and plays the position of catcher. This season, she has a batting average of .480, on-base percentage of .552 and a fielding percentage of .980.
Shea started playing softball when she was seven years old.
“My mom and dad had the idea to start a recreational league softball team for some girls from school and around the area,” she said. “I joined the team and fell in love with the sport.”
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “My team inspires me… I want to do the best I can every game and make my pitchers look the best they can look. Staying fit and in shape has become a very big part of my life and it lets me clear my head.”
Shea said that her biggest role models are her parents, Preston and Krissi.
“They both have such strong work ethics and have taught me so much about working with others and the importance of sports,” she said. “My dad played baseball and my mom played lacrosse. They both inspire me to work hard at softball because they have shown me how important sports are and the life lessons they teach.”
After graduating from BGA, Shea plans to go to college to pursue a career in architecture; following in her father’s footsteps.
