Peyton Poppell, daughter of Melissa and Mark Poppell, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza Female Athlete of the Week.
She is a senior at Battle Ground Academy and the captain of the varsity cheer team. This is Poppell’s first season as captain and said that it is is her biggest highlight for the year.
Poppell got her start in cheerleading through the channel of dance.
“I used to do competitive dance, so when I transferred to BGA sophomore year, I wanted to get involved with the school to know people and form bonds faster,” she said.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “What inspires me is doing well at our competition. Other teams we see at our gym inspire me to try to make our team better.”
One of her biggest influences and role models is her mother, Melissa. She said she admires her mother greatly for all that she accomplishes and how “she finds motivation in everything.”
When she’s not cheering, Poppell loves to hang out with friends, dance and draw.
Next fall, she plans to attend either the University of Tennessee at Knoxville or The University of Georgia to pursue a pre-med degree.
